Security Consortium Formed - Kerberos Consortium
MIT has announced the formation of the Kerberos Consortium to focus on "creating a universal platform to protect the world's computer networks".  According to their press release the Consortium founders include Centrify, Google, Stanford, University of Michigan, the Financial Services Technology Consortium, Sun Microsystems and Team F1.  The open source network authentication program is designed to lead to a universal authenticated single sign-on.  According to the launch video there are an estimated 100 million installations of the software worldwide.  The consortium is designed to accelerate further developments of the underlying technology, provide technical documentation, support cross-company coordination and training according to the Kerberos web site. The technical group will be expanded from 5 people to 15 based on an expansion of the available funding to $21 million over the next seven years.
