On the Radio - On the Air with In Business 1.24.08

Giblerpaul_suit_3 I'm being interviewed about the latest trends and developments in e-business and marketing by Joan Gillman and Jody Glynn Patrick, hosts of the popular nightly radio show "On the Air with In Business Magazine" on Madison, Wisconsin-based WTDY 1670 AM, the pulse.  The show will air on January 24, 2008 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm and can be heard live on the radio or online and will be available as a podcast following the broadcast.

Interestingly, one of my prior interviews is the most downloaded podcast of this ongoing show.

Give me a call (608) 255 4092 or e-mail me if you'd like me to speak to your group.

POST # 300 - Advertising Banner Blindness

This is my 300th posting on the Web Chef's e-Bytes.  I'm proud to be able to contribute to the conversation on the trends, techniques and statistics behind the continuing growth of the digital world.

I came across an interesting posting at usability expert Jakob Nielsen's Useit.com site that discusses research findings on what he calls "banner blindness".  His research using eyetracking has found that banner ads are ignored regardless of the viewers engagement and whether they are doing "quick scanning (the most common level of engagement), partial reading or thorough reading".  As he says "users almost never look at anything that looks like an advertisement whether or not it's actually an ad",  He has a couple of interesting video clips where eyetracking of viewers on the Money.com site are showcased.

In the review article, he states that there are 4 ways that ad content can get attention, although he doesn't necessarily advocate using them:

  1. Plain text
  2. Faces
  3. Cleavage or other sexual body parts
  4. Looking like the surrounding content

This is an itnteresting study that with wider release and acceptance by advertisers could have a significant impact for publishers, advertising agencies and ad networks.

Watch for my article on the resurrgence of online advertising that will be released soon on Wisconsin Technology Network.

On the Radio - On the Air with In Business 8.15.05

I've been asked to return for an interview on the popular radio show "On the Air with In Business" on Madison's WTDY 1670.  Jody Glynn Patrick, the publisher of In Business Magazine and Joan Gillman from Executive Education at UW Madison keep the show hopping with a lively interview technique.  I was on the show last October with an interview that is proving to be their most popular podcast as measured by downloads among the over 200 shows they've recorded for this popular daily business show.

UPDATE
The show will be broadcast tomorrow, August 15,2005.  Once it is available as a podcast, I'll provide a link to the podcast.

UPDATE 2
The podcast of the show is now available for downloading by visiting the WTDY 1670 AM site.
