New Article in Wisconsin Technology Network - Big Brother is Watching

I've written a new article in the ongoing series of Buzz Network articles in Wisconsin Technology Network.  The article "Big Brother is Watching; Privacy Barriers are Falling Down" examines some of the recent government and industry intrusions into consumer privacy along with providing suggestions for ways that businesses can avoid problems with their customer's privacy.

AuthorSTREAM joins the online presentation party

Joining the online slide sharing game is AuthorSTREAM.  The service allows you to upload your PowerPoint presentations and share them on blogs, YouTube or your iPod.  Here's one of the presentations on the site that I found with some striking images.

Private Beta Launch - SlideRocket, web-based presentations

Sliderocket_logo_on_white Tech Crunch reported on the private beta launch of SlideRocket "a presentation app that wants to recreate PowerPoint in the browser and take advantage of the web's sharing and mashup capabilities."  SlideRocket is scheduled to launch this summer.

I took a look at their online demonstration and capability descriptin to see that they are touting a wide range of features and benefits across a wide range of presentation phases including creation, delivery, managment, analysis and community.  In the demo show they reference the following:

  • online libraries for styles and presentation assets
  • effects, builds, transitions and animations (including several not available in PowerPoint)
  • presentation asset tagging, searching and sorting
  • hyperlinks within presentations
  • stylizeable charts & graphs
  • ability to share presentations online

I've submitted a request to be invited to test out the application and once I have more to report I'll do so here at PPT - Powerful Presentation Techniques.

New Column in Wisconsin Technology Network - The expanding world of social networks

I've written another article in the series of Buzz Networks columns that I contribute to Wisconsin Technology Network every month.  This article "The Expanding world of social networks" looks at the continuing evolution of social networks for consumers of every age and interest, for businesses to improve internal operations and for other marketing purposes.

I encourage your feedback and comments on the article, either here on the Web Chef's e-Bytes or at Wisconsing Technology Network.

Interestingly one of the social networks that I referenced in the article last week, Sermo, was in the news today for its agreement with Pfizer described in the Financial Times - " Sermo and Pfizer will work together to establish how drugmakers can best communicate with physicians online, and provide drug and disease information to them on-demand".  The site reportedly has 30,000 members and is adding 2,000 a week.  It will not be supported by advertising accoring to the article.

For more on the latest trends in e-marketing see my other blog - the Web Chef's e-Bytes.

Slideshare Enhancement - Audio Synchronization

Slideshare has taken their presentation service one step further with the introduction of Slidecast according to BrandAutopsy blogger John Moore.  The new Slidecast service allows a presenter to upload an mp3 file and synchronize it with their Slideshare presentation - mashup of a PowerPoint Presentation with a Podcast audio track.

Slideshare has loaded a video on YouTube that explains how to create a Slidecast.

Additional Web-based slide Sharing Programs

Rory over at Learn Learn Learn has a post that references a couple of web-based PowerPoint sharing tools that I wasn't familiar with.  These tools include authorSTREAM and Scribd, a tool that claims its "mission is to create the world's largest open library of documents" (including PowerPoint).  These tools join Slideshare, discussed in an earlier posting on this blog and ZohoShow, also reviewed in a prior posting on PPT.   Another online presentation sharing tool is Thumbstacks.

Rory believes that the intriguing part of these tools is the social networking component which allows the viewer to rate them, post comments, etc.  But as he says the challenge is still to make the presentations worth viewing.
