In my Powerful Presentation Techniques session I like to get attendee participation by showing or listening to 4 - 6 speeches that are considered among the best in recent history.
Among the speeches I often include in my session are the following:
- I have a dream, Martin Luther King, Jr
- A Day of Infamy, Franklin Delano Roosevelt
- Nixon Impeachment, Barbara Jordan
- Inaugural Address, John F Kennedy
After listening or viewing the speeches, I ask why are these great speeches and why are these great presenters? The discussion is always engaging and interesting. As we discuss these speeches, the factors that are identified making them great are often the following:
- Passion
- Energy
- Commitment
- Repetition
- Thematic
- Story Telling
- Voice modulation
As you continue to refine your presentation skills listen to these great presenters and ask yourself why are they so good and how can I learn from their techniques.
