Mini-mobile Micro Projectors

The Wall Street Journal had an interesting article (subscription required) about new technology that will allow cell phones to become mobile projection units.  For those of us used to lugging around projectors, albeit smaller than they were a few years ago, this potential technology development could bring a good deal of joy.  The article states that Microvision has released a prototype of a unit that can be integrated into a cellphone for use as a projection unit.  They are projecting (no pun intended) that the projection technology will be released in late 2008. 

Other companies reportedly working on the technology include Symbol Technologies and Explay Ltd.

Political Presentations - SOTU Delivery & 2008 Presidential Campaign

For those of you interested in the convergence of politics and presentation skills, I encourage you to listen to the President's State of the Union (SOTU) this evening.  It will be interesting to hear and see not only the content of the speech, but also how well it is delivered.  The President's delivery of his surge strategy was panned from both the right and left as not being well written or delivered.

Moving into the 2008 campaign elections we have the growing importance of video both live and pre-recorded in helping candidates make their mark by differentiating their messages and connecting up with a mass audience.  Obama has used video to launch his campaign and so has Hillary. 

I'd be curious as to how well you think she delivers her message?

Zoho Show Expanded Capabilities

ZDNet reports that Zoho Show has added functionality to support Open Office's ODP format in addition to PowerPoint. 

Google PowerPoint Competitor?

Ed Kohler at the Technology Evangelist has made his 2007 predictions.  Among them at number 2 is that Google will "buy and integrate a web-based PowerPoint competitor".

So what do you think?  Will his crystal ball prove to be true? 

Possible players that could be acquired include Spresent according to Digital Inspiration blogger Amit Agarwal.  Techcrunch readers add Empressr to this list with their comments about the service. 

Back into the Swing...

For my regular readers and new visitors, I apologize for not having added any new content over the past couple of weeks.  It has been a very difficult time with the holidays and with dealing with the emotional and logistical aspects surrounding the death of my father - John W. Gibler.  As much as we try to prepare ourselves for this eventuality, it still proves to be far more difficult then anticipated. 

I'm proud of the accomplishments that my father made to the world as a plant pathologist and contributor to the Green Revolution.  His contributions were recognized prior to his death with the awarding of the E.C. Stakman award from the University of Minnesota. 

He made a difference and I hope in a much smaller way that I can do the same with my blog, educational sessions and insights.
